After losing significant amounts of weight, the overlying skin from the arms does not retract adequately due to obesity-related stretching forces. The surgical correction of this deformity is called arm lift or brachioplasty.
Mini-brachioplasty is performed through a small incision in the armpit that pulls the skin under the arm. The postoperative pain is minimal and the recovery period is short.
Full brachioplasty is performed through an incision in the arm from the elbow to the chest. Although it seems to be a long incision, it is hidden under the arm. Postoperative recovery time is longer, but you are able to perform routine activities.
